Equilibrium: Breathe, Relax, Rejuvenate and Meditate

At the end of this class you will find yourself returning to a state of present moment equilibrium. Many of our lives are very busy and this inevitably means our mind and bodies have to process information and deal with environmental change at faster pace. This in turn leads to tension creating a stress factor within us. If on going, it leaves us experiencing feelings of negativity, restlessness, insomnia, nervousness, anxiety, panic attacks, headaches and physical aches, i.e. backache. Sometimes it leads further to dependency on alcohol, tobacco and recreational drugs. All of which can lower our self confidence, self esteem and motivation sometimes leading to depression. When we become stressed the body reacts in a certain way - the “fight or flight” response. This produces a rush of the hormone adrenalin. In brief, stress factors over a period of time create extra work for our immune system, our body’s natural defence system leaving us more susceptible to any germ in the air, or physical aches that linger for longer than they need to. By using the practise of yoga relaxation techniques it will help to reverse the flood of adrenalin replacing it with endorphins, a group of peptide neurotransmitters, that become activated. These enhance our immune system encouraging it to fight all types of infection or disease thereby encouraging it to function to its optimum level. This class then is aimed at relaxing body and mind through breath awareness practise, gentle neck and shoulder exercises plus a warm up routine to release physical tension. It will use various breathing exercises (pranayama), visualisations and meditations finishing with yoga nidra (relaxation). Meditation is the heart of yoga practise and through deeper relaxation, body, emotions and mind are rejuvenated, we feel completeness instead of separateness or isolation, at one with our energy within and all around, our “natural state or birthright”. You may find some techniques taught useful tools to use in your everyday life.
