Tutor: Anastasia Pollard

Dates: Thursdays, 12th January – 23rd March 2017

Times: 10am – 5pm

Experience Level: Intermediate / Advanced

Fee: £495

This course is aimed to help students with some experience of life painting to develop and expand their understanding of painting the figure – life and clothed. Starting in tone and then using first a limited and then a full palette, we will revisit some basic concepts, such as colour mixing, proportion and figure drawing and composition. We will then explore the expressive use of colour and mark making work both to create a likeness, and to develop a dynamic and interesting figure painting. We will work initially from sketches, building up to creating colourful and dramatic paintings. The tutor will help students to develop their own approaches to working from a life model and to develop their own, individual approaches to figure painting.

Anastasia Pollard trained at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Florence Academy of Art. Her works have been exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters’ Annual Exhibition (2005, 2006 and 2007) winning the Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture in 2009, and the BP Portrait Award Exhibition (2006, 2007 and 2009).
