Taught by experienced, pre-eminent portrait and figure painters, the Saturday Portrait and Figure Painting Class introduces students to different approaches to portraiture and figure painting. In this course, Sara Lee Roberts and Roxana Halls will look at capturing the character of the sitter through portraiture and creating a narrative. During weeks 1 – 5, Sara Lee Roberts will look at creating an atmosphere in a painting and capturing the personality of the sitter. In weeks 6 – 10, Roxana Halls will work with students to create a narrative for a painting, using composition, props, fabric and setting.

Roxana Halls has held several successful solo exhibitions including at the National Theatre and on Cork St. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions such as the B.P. Portrait Award on five occasions, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait exhibition, also in many group shows, art competitions and art fairs. Her awards include the Villiers David Prize & the Discerning Eye’s Founder’s Purchase Prize

Sara Lee Roberts most recent work combines abstraction with portraits taken from old master compositions. She has a special interest in the writings of Eugene Delacroix and in using other artist’s writings as a source of inspiration. She teaches at the Royal Drawing School and at the Wallace Collection.
